The Mission Sign

— October of 2018 —

As part of my Technical Design and Production 2 class my Sophomore year of college, I was challenged to create a neon mission sign for the musical Guys and Dolls. The entire sign is made from CNC’ed 1/2” plywood that is backlit with regular incandescent bulbs. The letters are cut out with heat-shrunk boat wrap to allow for light to pass through. The neon component is actually a 20’ roll of LEDs incased in a flexible silicon tube. This gave the perfect appearance of old style neon, while at the same time being dimmable.
