The Backyard Pub

— April of 2020 —

Sitting in our driveways, having a socially-distant drink with our neighbors during this time of COVID, we started reminiscing about what we missed most. For my neighbors it was traveling (they had just cancelled their trip to see family and friends in England), for me it was building things (I was home early from school with no project on the horizon). An idea started forming... wouldn't it be cool to have a British pub in the backyard? It was something we had joked about and idly imagined, but maybe this was what we were meant to get out of COVID?

They had the perfect space (not to mention a lot of firsthand experience with British pubs), and I had the time and interest in making it happen. A beer, or maybe two later, the idea was turned into a written check for the first set of materials. A month or two, later, the corner of their backyard was turned into a 10’x12’ fully-functioning British pub. They couldn't go to England, but I was able to bring a little bit of England to them, as well as everyone who stops by for a pint down at the pub!
